President Abraham Lincoln is trying to abolish slavery in the Confederacy (“President Lincoln”). He decides to write the Emancipation Proclamation (“President Lincoln”). When he sets the date that he wants the Confederates to return he says if you don’t he will right another Proclamation (“President Lincoln”). They just ignore him so he writes another Proclamation freeing all Confederate slaves (“President Lincoln”).
President Abraham Lincoln decided if he could not eliminate slavery in the Union, he would in the Confederacy. He would do it by using his military power (“President Lincoln”). He was commander-in-chief of Union War Effort. When he revealed his plans on July 22, 1862 he made it clear that he made a final decision and was not looking for the South’s permission (“President Lincoln”). In September victory came for the Union (“President Lincoln”). On September 22 he issued a preliminary draft of the Proclamation, and warned the Confederates if they did not return to the Union by January 1, 1863 he would send a second Proclamation freeing all slaves (“President Lincoln”). It was ignored (“President Lincoln”).
Once Abraham Lincoln wrote a letter on what he thought about slavery. He wrote, “If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong” (qtd. in “President Lincoln”).
