Project Title: Manglue
Significance of the Study
Mango trees are one of the major sources of food in our country. Mangoes are very wide-spread in the Philippines. An adhesive, or glue, is a mixture in a liquid or semi-liquid state that adheres or bonds items together. Glue is very important, not only to students but also to other people. Glue is often used for projects, or generally in our daily lives. The purpose of “manglue” is to use extracts of mango as an alternative ingredient to the vinegar ingredient of glue. The vinegar ingredient of the glue that makes the odd will be replaced with an extract from a mango, so that the scent of the glue will be pleasant, will have a touch of a different color and will be cheaper than the commercial glue. Problem:

Main Problem:
Is mango a useful and economical alternative ingredient in making glue? Sub-Problems:
1. Which part of the mango can be used in enhancing the scent of the glue? In making glue? 2. What is the role of the main ingredients in glue that can be replaced by mango? 3. Will it be effective?

Hypotheses
1. Mango is not an effective source of ingredient of glue.
2. Ripe mangoes are effective substitute for glue making.
3. Unripe mangoes are effective substitute for glue making.
4. There will not be an ingredient of a glue that mango can replace.

Review of Related Literature
Cultivated in many tropical and subtropical regions and distributed widely in the world, mango is one of the most extensively exploited fruits for food, juice, flavor, fragrance and color. The ripe mango is an antiscorbutic, diuretic, laxative, invigorating, fattening and astringent. Ripe, unpeeled mango fruit gives off a distinctive resinous, sweet smell. An adhesive, or glue, is a mixture in a liquid or semi-liquid state that adheres or bonds items together. Adhesives may have come from either natural or synthetic sources. Some modern adhesives are extremely strong, and are becoming increasingly important in modern construction and industry. The types of materials that can be bonded using adhesives are virtually limitless, but they are especially useful for bonding thin materials. The main ingredients in making glue are as follows: 1 quart skim milk, ¾ tbsp. baking soda, 1 tbsp. white vinegar, and 10oz water. Simple glue can be made at home by mixing wheat flour and water. This glue will stick pieces of paper together.

Methodology
Place the milk and mango extract in a double boiler. Cook on low heat and stir as curds form. Drain of liquid. Don’t wash the remaining mass with water so that the smell of the mango will retain. Put it in a clean bowl. Dissolve baking soda in water. Pour over curds and stir until white paste forms. Place in a re-sealable containers. Blend whole wheat flour with cold water to make liquid paste (about the consistency of pancake batter). Beat until the mixture is free of lumps. Then gently heat until boiling while constantly stirring. Allow to cool before using. Store it in an air-tight container. If the paste hardens, soften by mixing in small amounts of warm water needed. Step 1: Curdle the Milk

First you will need to separate the milk into curds (solids) and whey (liquid). You can do this by adding the mango extract. 1. It is necessary to heat the milk on the stove or in the microwave for best results. Stir the mango extract into the milk. 2. Let the mixture sit for a couple of minutes.

3. If the milk doesn’t seem to be separating, add a little vinegar.

Step 2: Separate the Liquid and the Solid
Now you will need to get rid of the whey. A coffee filter works best, but you can also use a paper towel. Place the coffee filter over a cup and pour the mixture onto the filter. The whey will start to run into the cup, leaving the curds in the filter. 1. Squeeze the remaining whey through the filter, be careful no to lose any of the curds.
