On my arrival, I felt some angst towards the magnanimous quest to be undertaken, the anticipated virtuosity of the calibre of both the lecturer of whom we were yet to meet and my provincial peers who would be undertaking this intense, prestigious enterprise. On meeting the founder and the lecturer, both parties quickly set the students at ease and the Lecturer dissipated the 'angst zephyr', with a YouTube video, as I watched the Lecturers nepenthe, I was set more at ease with 'focus and possibility'. The lectures began!
Members were advised to enter into groups in order to facilitate each other with the class exercises. My reflection at that time was: " Oh God! Not another group exercise!", as, there were many, scathed, ex-colleagues of mine, at the Bachelors of Applied Science level, who still loathe their fellow, parasitic, slothful, group-exercise, colleagues, for the trials and tribulations which were experienced during the 'team-building' process. Certainly, the process of: 'forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning', for some, in the past, had quite humorously, short-circuited from: 'forming', straight to: 'adjourning', I wondered if history would repeat itself. Nonetheless, the team process turned out to be quite innovative, in that it was an individual exercise with group input.
There lecturer then commenced on a marathon session of information. The displays of innovation such as new developments of flexible-spoke tires, aroused the 'new possibilities' which could blossom. The lecturer used a myriad of medium to confer concepts of marketing and innovation such as: videos, slides, class-participation and of course his noble sense-of-humour, all class-members were attentive and interested due to the lecturers definitive, lecturing, strategy. Success seemed possible and then we were given our assignment!
To me, a two-thousand word essay may as well have been to: 'support the world with my spine until death', to me, it is a Herculean task! As a natural-sciences student, the calculator, slide-rule and log-table are my dearest friends, they are my confidant and guide with which I derive explanations and logic. Words, punctuation and grammar are my nemesis! Immediately, I commenced the assignment. I intended to be the proverbial 'virgin with lamps trimmed' was reminded of the timeless words of Siddhartha: "If you tighten the string too much, it will snap, and if you leave it too slack, it won't play, but if they are tuned to the right point, then you will make music ". There would have to be some form of strategy in developing the critique. With this in mind, I used the following time-management plan:
2. Immediately commence a draft of the assignment and the reflective. 3. Meet team members to develop strategies for assignment clarification and feedback. 4. Receive administrative documents and books
5. Continue developing assignment first draft.
6. Achieve feedback on first draft for Thursday 25th September, 2014. 7. Refine assignment for submission date.
8. Have fun, take time to relax in between or, as Dr. Stephen Covey would say: "Sharpen the saw."
