Food Borne Illness Paper
For our week four individual assignment we are instructed to pick a food borne illness and answer the questions pertaining to the illness. In this case I will be talking about salmonella. Salmonella is a food borne illness that can cause harm to the human body. The infectious agent (pathogen) that causes salmonella is called salmonella enteriditis. This particular nasty bacteria is more than just a virus. It can be viewed under a microscope. Salmonella is described as a gram negative rod shaped bacilli that can cause diarrheal illness in humans. It infects the cell by multiplying and later bursting the cell protein factors making it useful to have a salmonella intestinal invasion and the induction of fluid secretion and for inflammatory responses. Salmonella is found in the intestinal tracts of humans and animals including birds. One way it can be transmitted is by eating contaminated foods. Contaminated foods look and smell normal but are hazardous on the inside. Beef, poultry, milk, and eggs are some of the common foods that contain salmonella at times. Besides these foods vegetables are also known to contain salmonella. If you cook your foods thoroughly it is most likely that you won’t get salmonella. Another way you can contract salmonella is by not washing your hands after using the restroom. People are also advised to wash their hands after touching reptiles or any other type of animal. When it comes to the immune system and protecting the body from salmonella because our bodies produce microbes which assist human cells in fighting infections caused by diseases. An...
