EDR assignment P1
In this assignment I will be talking about how important it is to respect equality, diversity and the rights of individuals in the Heath and social care environment. In the Health and social care environment, the maintaining of equality, diversity and individual rights are important to ensure all service users are well looked after and cared for. Equality means being treat equally, especially in rights and opportunities. All individuals have the right to be treat equally and there are laws to ensure this happens. In accordance with the law, organisations have equality policies in place to ensure it occurs. Equality must occur despite any issues with labelling, stereotyping or difference and if not, the rights of the individuals are compromised. An example of this would be an abortion clinic refusing to take a job application from a religious applicant. This is an example of indirect religious discrimination. Diversity is essential in the health and social care environment as any differences of an individual are to be respected and accepted. Everyone should be recognised as being different and their difference should be valued and respected. An example, of diversity not being maintained is a white nurse refusing to care for a black service user because of their ethnicity. Food can be used as a method of diversity as carers should respect any dietary requirements a service user requires. For example, if there is a Muslim service user, they should be given the option of Halal meat as an alternative to average meat. Language barriers should also be considered in the health and social care environment. Any service user who speaks a different language should be offered a free translator to translate any information the service user is required to know. Education can prove a problem that heath and social care workers may have to face. If a service user is uneducated and can’t read or write, a worker is required to help them as much as possible....
