1 - Introduction
- Introduction to Springfield Academy
The Springfield Academy is located in Calne Wiltshire, and has been established since 1979 where it became a secured institution for girls from all over the UK who had complex issues and social needs, they were often involved in criminal activity and had been dealt with through the courts it was then known as Greenacres, during this time the school had about 15 residential personnel with a capacity to hold up to 20 in secured cells with a 24 hour care provision, it was one of the only all girls reform schools in the region. In 1984 the school was renamed to Springfield School and was taken over by Wiltshire county council providing specialist help with students both male and female with specialist needs providing residential care for up to 50 pupils. In 2010 the School was awarded Academy status and is now known as the Springfield Academy it provides specialist care for statemented students with complex social and learning difficulties. The Academy takes great pride in providing award level of care, whilst providing a challenging and stimulating environment. The Academy works towards affording students the opportunities for both academic and vocational study’s to build towards their own self confidence and abilities, to aid in their own development and self-belief so they believe they can also succeed in today’s society, self-belief and low self- esteem is a recurring theme within the students at Springfields Academy. The Academy as it stands today also holds a dual role within the community, acting as a specialist sports college delivering a high level of specialist coaching for children who have been identified as being gifted and talented in sport. As well as delivering ‘sport for all’ in which they actively promote sport within the wider community, they have built their reputation through well-established multi-agency working practices...
